Big White Photos Uploaded

Well, back in HK after a week of skiing which has taken it's toll on my legs somewhat. Jet lag kicking in nicely from my past two week's travels (HK-Dubai/ Abu Dhabi-HK-Canada-HK), which means I am up nice and early (around 4:00am) and ready to crash out around mid afternoon (much the same as normal there).

Still, at least it means I can upload some pics before heading off into work which have now been posted on the photoblog site., along with some photos from last year's trip. If the sun is out or Gena is at the top of the mountain, then you know that they were taken this year!

On the Piste in the Canadian Rockies

Well, just finished our fourth day's skiing, excellent conditions with lots of snow.
Gena's skiing is coming on really well, only one major incident where she took out another skier in a high speed collision (Dickie Harlow style), which of course was my fault. Thankfully no one was hurt. My skiing on the other hand is rather poor at the moment which I blame on the "high performance" skis I have hired. It is a bit like being given the keys to a Ferrari when you are used to driving a Ford Escort, you really should know what you are doing before you set off. They don't half go some though when you open them up.
Right, time to go now, some poor cover band is making a right mess of "With or Without You" so the pub becons.
Will post some pics when I get back to Hong Kong.

On the Blog - Dubai Airport

The joys of business travel.
After a 9 hour flight from HK to Dubai, then a 2 hour transfer I finally got to Abu Dhabi during the early hours of Sunday morning. Managed to get a few hours sleep before making my first presentation of the weekend Sunday lunchtime. After a full day of meetings, site visits and business dinner, I finally got back to the hotel around 11:00pm (incidentally the first hotel I have ever stayed in that did not have a bar - in fact, it was not allowed to sell alcohol).
After more meetings and another presentation Monday lunchtime, we transferred back to Dubai, where I am now sat finally with a beer and Internet access. Flight leaves in 40 mins, which gets me back to HK at 6:00am - just in time to get home, take a shower and make it back in for 8:30am on Tuesday morning. Great!

French Polynesia

I have posted some photos on the photoblog of our honeymoon in French Polynesia. When we went it was still supposed to be the dry season. Still at least it meant that I did not feel guilty for going off diving.

Thankfully things brightened up by the time we made it to Bora Bora. We went snorkeling with sharks, lots of them, which was a bit unnerving. I have dived with sharks on many an occasion which has never bothered me but for some reason I was not overly fussed swimming on the surface with them all around. Maybe it had something to do with the guy next to me feeding them bloody fish scraps which was getting them agitateted.

Popped in to Auckland for the afternoon on the way back as we had a few hours to kill between flights. Did the usual tourist stuff, tower, harbour, which was pretty much about it. Did not do the sky jump as we were short on time - maybe next visit.

Hawaii Pics Posted

I have uploaded some photos of our trip to Hawaii back in 2004, when we visited Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. The trip up to the top of Haleakela on Maui to see the sun rise is recommended if you get the chance, as is taking a thick coat and thermos of coffee, (which we didn't) as it is freezing up there until the sun finally comes up.

Volcanoes National Park is excellent, as is a visit to the summit of Mauna Kea - up a steep gravel road restricted to 4 wheel drive vehicles only. We went up the convertible pictured below.

Day off in Dubai - June 2004

Back in June 2004 I spent 3 weeks in Dubai working on a proposal to build a large skyscraper, which is now under construction. On our one day off we headed out into the desert for some 4 wheel drive dune bashing, which was a laugh. I have dug out some photos of the desert trip and uploaded these to the photoblog, as well as some snaps taken when we went to the Burj Al Arab for lunch.

We did not win the job in the end!
